Ahhh, perfection. How I’d adore everything in my life to be perfectly perfect. How I’ve strived to embody it, trying to be the perfect daughter/girlfriend/student/employee. And how it completely destroyed my self-esteem 😬
Yikes. In case you can’t tell, I’m a recovering perfectionist.
I used to tell myself that wanting things to be perfect was a good thing. I just had high standards. The problem is, my standards were impossibly high, and I was killing myself trying to reach them.
It’s the classic “I’m not good enough” syndrome.
We often tell ourselves we’re not good enough as we are, so we have to keep trying to be perfect. We believe that if we don’t, we risk being totally unloveable failures.
Perfectionism is the ultimate self-destruct button
The thing is, striving for perfection is a huge waste of our time. Because perfection doesn’t exist.
Like beauty, perfection is subjective. It becomes our definition of it; and our definitions are usually pretty vague.
This means that we can define what “perfection” looks like, move towards it, and maybe even achieve it. But does it ever really end there?
More often than not, we simply get to our goal, redefine perfection, and move the bar higher.
However, the antidote to perfection is acceptance.
Once we begin to accept who we were, and who we are now, as well as who we’ll become, we can start to experience incredible shifts in our confidence. We feel more authentic, and more at peace. And to get started on this journey, all we need is a five minute practice.

In this practice, we’ll be repeating three affirmations to ourselves to help cultivate some serious self-love, and accept ourselves the way we are.
This meditation is can be a gorgeous addition to any self-care ritual, which will help give you a confidence boost whenever you notice you’re not feeling “good enough”, or you just need a quick pick-me-up.
Try this practice first thing on a morning, especially on days where you’re feeling a little self-critical.
Here’s how to do it

1.Sit or lie down in a comfortable position, set a timer for 5 minutes (or longer, if you feel like it), and close your eyes or lower your gaze.
2. Focus on your breathing, without trying to change it. Simply observe your body breathing itself, and notice where you can feel the breath most strongly in your body.
3. Say the following affirmations to yourself – “I love and accept who I used to be. I love and accept who I am now. I love and accept who I will become”. Leave a pause between each affirmation, and observe how each one lands with you.
4. Repeat the set of affirmations 3 times, or more if it feels good for you. Feel free to add more affirmations into the mix, or to edit them into something that feels more natural for you.
5. Allow yourself to bask in the joy of your own self-acceptance. Notice if you feel any different than when you began the practice.
Repeat this meditation whenever you need a reminder that you really are okay, just the way you are.
